How to Fix Disapproved Products in Google Merchant Center
A disapproved product cannot show in Shopping ads or free listings. The good news: every disapproval comes with a reason, and most are fixed by correcting one attribute in your feed or on your product page.
1. Find out what is wrong
In Merchant Center, open Products and filter by status Not approved (disapproved) or Limited. Every product lists its item issues: the issue name, the attribute it concerns (for example price, gtin or image_link) and whether it blocks the product everywhere or only in some destinations or countries.
Group issues by cause rather than going product by product. Ten products with “Price mismatch” usually share one root cause, such as a sale that is not reflected in the feed.
2. Know the difference between errors, warnings and suggestions
- Errors disapprove the product (or remove it from a destination). Fix these first.
- Warnings limit performance: the product can show, but less often or without rich information.
- Suggestions are optional improvements, such as adding a product highlight or more images.
3. Fix the source, not just the symptom
Where you fix an issue depends on where the product data comes from:
- Your website (landing page, price, availability shown to shoppers): fix the page itself, then wait for Google to re-crawl.
- A feed file, Google Sheets or an e-commerce plugin: fix the value in the source so the next upload does not bring the error back.
- Quick fixes: a supplemental data source lets you override single attributes without touching the main feed. This is how the Merchant Center for Google app applies edits to file and website feeds.
4. The most common disapprovals
- Price mismatch between the feed and the landing page.
- Invalid or missing GTIN.
- Missing, generic or promotional product images.
- Landing page not working: the product URL returns an error, redirects to the home page or is blocked for Google’s crawler.
- Availability mismatch: the feed says “in stock” while the page says “sold out” (or the other way around).
- Policy issues such as restricted products or misrepresentation, which often need an account-level fix.
5. Request a review or wait for the re-crawl
After you fix the data, Google re-checks the product, usually within a day; some checks can take up to three days. If the product was disapproved after a manual review, Merchant Center offers a Request review option on the issue. Don’t resubmit unchanged products repeatedly: repeated violations can lead to account-level warnings.
Catch disapprovals the day they happen
Merchant Center for Google groups every item issue by cause, explains it in plain language, shows exactly which products and attributes are affected and sends a notification when products become newly disapproved. You can fix the title, price, availability, link or image right from your phone.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take for a disapproved product to be approved again?
Usually within a day after Google re-crawls the corrected data; some checks take up to three days. Products disapproved after a manual policy review may need you to request a review.
Why are my products limited instead of disapproved?
Limited products can still show, but only in some destinations or countries, or with reduced performance, because of warnings such as a missing GTIN or a generic image.
Can I fix Merchant Center disapprovals from my phone?
Yes. Merchant Center for Google lists every issue with a plain-language fix and lets you edit the affected product attributes and photos on iPhone or Android.
